Cv joint help 2000 impala?

Changed cv joint on impala, horrible grinding noise when car is put back into park from drive...no noise in drive|||was that before or after the cv joint was replaced????????|||Sounds like the CV joint is not engaged in the transmission properly. When you put it in drive, the stub shaft starts spinning, and then when you put it in park, the parking pawl RATTTTTTTTTTLES until it locks in.

Make sure you properly engaged the new CV joint on to the shaft coming out of the transmission, it should push in and kinda *click*, though it is not an audible click, more of a feeling. Sounds like the CV shaft isn%26#039;t even on the transmission output shaft anymore.

If the car is still in the air, this is normal if you aren%26#039;t holding your foot on the brake. You need to stop the wheels from spinning BEFORE you put the car in park (using the brakes) or you will get that loud rattle noise. It is the parking pawl, trying to engage. Don%26#039;t worry, it%26#039;s hardened, you haven%26#039;t done any damage at this point.
