Wen changing cv joints. is it best to change only damaged one, or fix both at same time and why pls anyone ta.

it is much better to just get a exchange axle,,with 2 new joint,s,,you also get a lifetime warranty with about all of the now day,s,,and it,s a lot less messy too,,changing those thing,s can be a big mess ,,hope this help you some.|||just the damagd one ......if it aint broke then dont fix it|||If one is damaged, chances are the other isn%26#039;t far behind. Check the condition of the other - but consider changing them both at the same time.|||you need to change both just like tire in pairs|||When you take your car in, most of the time they will tell you to fix both of them at the same time. If you are doing it at home, I think you should change both of them. My husband changes a lot of that stuff and he always changes both. That way, we don%26#039;t have to worry about the other one going bad later and then we will know the date that they both were put on. But, if you don%26#039;t need to do it with both now, then that is completely up to you.|||The work is a lot less(depending on the car) if the entire axle is replaced than just a boot.

Normally, the boot and adding more grease is the standard procedure, but I%26#039;ve found that installing a completely overhauled axles will give piece of mind for the owner and the mechanic. When they%26#039;re overhauled, all the bearings, seals, and grease are replaced so nothing should go wrong unless your technician made a mistake or there happens to be a manufacture defect.

Parts are cheaper by replacing just a boot, but most cars I%26#039;ve seen have had more damage than the boot, usually just the cv bearings. This happens from driving the car with the boot torn or open for some period of time.

My advice: Change the entire axle. It will save you time and it%26#039;s only a $10-$40 difference from a boot and a completely overhauled axle.|||You gotta go with both of them if you can afford it. Make sure that you have a proffesional mechanic do the work at a shop.
